In the Reconstruction of the Battle by Gumbinnen Five Hundred Re-enactors, Cavalry and Armoured Personnel Carrier to be Engaged

The military and historical reenactment of the battle by Gumbinnen that will be held in Kaliningrad on August 24 is going to bring together the largest number of participants and spectators in the festival three years’ history – reports the press-service of the Government of Kaliningrad region.

This year, in the re-creation of the episodes of the victorious for Russian army battle during World War I some 500 re-enactors of 50 clubs from Russia and abroad will participate.

By the estimation of the organizers, the event may be visited by up to 50 thousand people.

The organizers specially emphasize the advantages of the new site selected by the authorities of Gusev jointly with historians and re-enactors.

The distinctive feature of the present festival is the organization of interactive sites that are called to create the atmosphere of that time.

The viewers will see three military episodes: the battle by Kaushen and the feat by the cavalry captain Peter Wrangel, the heroic fight of the 28-th division at the North wing of the battle and the battle by Gumbinnen at the southern flank.

Russian Imperial Army will be represented by 220 bayonets, 20 swords, 2 guns, 15 artillerymen. On the part of the German army 165 bayonets, 10 swords, 2 guns and 10 artillerymen will perform. Some 15-20 people will work in a field hospital.

The reenactment of the battle by Gumbinnen is included in the federal programme of the events dedicated to the 100-th anniversary of World War I. The event organizers are Russian Military and Historical Society and the Ministry of culture of Russia.
